Reflections From the May 2010 Event

The second backyard banquet was held at Sarah Mellen's house on May 15, 2010.  With a Sierra Club outing earlier in the day and Creekfest the following weekend, this was a smaller gathering than the previous one.  The people who came had a good time and enjoyed the food.

Sarah provided commercial lentils cooked with local onions in a solar box cooker, and greens fresh from her square foot garden, but not plums since they weren't ripe yet.  Karen brought Charleston tea and scuppernong wine made in North Carolina from NC, SC and GA grapes.  San brought Carolina rice with carrots.  Barbara brought egg salad with spices including fresh local sage.  David and Patty brought barbecue pork raised on their farm.  April and Jeremy, who are welcome newcomers to the group, brought local strawberries and a rice dish. Just as we were finishing dinner, Peggy and Frank arrived with blueberry cobbler dessert, having been on the Sierra kayak trip earlier in the day.

Conversation topics included local powerful ginger ale, the solar box cooker, our assorted gardens, David and Patty's farm, and where to go to pick your own bluberries.
